Pow Wow Etiquette

Consumption of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited!!!!!!

Pay attention to the Master of Ceremonies, as he will explain the different dances and keep everyone informed of     important activities or announcements.

DO NOT walk into the Circle (arena) unless invited to dance by the Master of Ceremonies.

The Arena Director is in charge of the arena and has the authority to ask anyone to leave the arena.

Inappropriate dress or behavior will not be tolerated.

Benches encircling the Circle are reserved for dancers and their families. Blankets on a bench reserve that spot for the dancers; please do not remove (or move) anyone’s blanket or sit on it without invitation.

All pets must be kept on leashes. Please clean up after your pets. No pets are allowed in the Circle.

Children should be supervised and not left unattended.

During certain times you may be asked not to film or video record; an announcement will be made by the MC.

If you wish to take a picture of a dancer outside of the arena please ask permission from the dancer prior to taking the picture.

A dancer’s clothing is not a costume, it is called “regalia”. Dancers’ regalia should be treated with respect. If you admire it, ask questions and always seek permission before touching it.

Please stand and remove your hat during the Grand Entry, Flag Song, Veteran's Song and Memorial song ( the MC will tell you when to stand).  Show respect for elders.

Do not litter, make an extra effort to walk to the trashcan.

Do visit with those who engage you in conversation. Sit down and eat with those who invite you to do so. Keep your conversation light and casual, avoiding personal agendas. This is a social event. ENJOY!

Remember, if you are not sure just ask!
